Meet the man behind it all, Founder, and CEO Guy Chanin...
Q: What is your background in the industry?
A: I
have been in the apparel industry for 23 years holding multiple leadership
roles in manufacturing, wholesale, retail and licensing. More notably, I spent
almost 10 years of my career at Quiksilver where I was a VP of Merchandising
and Design and subsequently became a Senior VP of Direct to Retail. 2010 I was
courted by Hybrid apparel to join their company and I became the Chief
Merchandising Officer for 3 years. In the end of 2012 Gamechangers was born.
Q: What is
your source of motivation?
A: My
family.
Q: What
was your first job in the industry?
A: Working
as a credit manager for a Manufacturer in Downtown LA called Garron Corp.
Q: What
is your new personal company?
A: Gamechangers
which is a Talent Management Company. We are in recruitment placing very
talented people in fashion and apparel companies as over the US.
Q: What
are the many connections you can provide to your clients?
A: We
connect our clients with people that ultimately help their businesses become
successful.
Q: Did
you ever plan to be where you are today?
A: Yes
Q: What inspirational quote would you say defines
you as a person?
A: I
don’t believe one quote can sum up a mans life or career, but one that sticks
out is:
“The mediocre
teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates.
The great teacher inspires.”
Q: Have
you accomplished your childhood goals?
A: Your
childhood goals are in essence, your adolescent dreams and they certainly
change as you grow into a young adult. I wanted to be in theater as a young
thespian so I guess the answer is no. I do believe though, that if you are
truly ambitious, you don’t ever reach your goals completely. Part of the fun is the journey and not so
much the destination.
Q: Do
you have a specific message you want to give to the world through your work?
A: I
want people to always have hope especially those that are just getting started.
And even those that are transitioning and feel like all is lost, never lose
you’re your way. Remember, hope is not strategy but it’s the very thing that
keeps us inspired and connected to achievement.
Q: What
advice would you give to people who feel intimidated by this industry?
A: Don’t
ever let fear govern your decision-making and choices you have in your life and
your career. It will always be the one thing that holds you back from doing
incredible things! In fact the opposite should happen, you should feel
empowered by purpose and hope!
Q: What
would you say; makes you stand out from the rest in the companies you have
worked in and now with your own personal business?
A: I
believe in what I do and I am doing something I love. Other companies are after
transactions and exploiting people and opportunities, I am about changing
peoples lives, doing something positive to an industry that has been good to me
throughout my career, and making a modest living doing it.
Q: Tell
us something that not many know about you.
A: I
have a crazy chocolate covered raisins fetish!!
Q: Do
you have any secret personal tips to those seeking to be successful in this
industry?
A: Attitude is more important than aptitude –
make sure you have a good one :)
